Popular treats for Diwali, laddus are sweet wheat balls, filled with dried nuts and fruit

Ingredients

1 cup Wheat Flour
1/4 cup Gram Flour
11/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup finely grated coconut
1/4 cup dry fruit, almonds, raisins, etc.
1 cup ghee*

Directions

Heat the ghee over a medium heat, adding both flours when warmed. Just before the flour is raosted, add coconut and dried fruits/almonds. Add the sugar and stir thoroughly. Remove from the heat and, once cooled, roll into laddus -- small balls approximately one-inch in diameter.

Author Comments

*Ghee is clarified butter, which is slowly cooked for about two hours to settle any impurities to the bottom. The "pure" layer on top is delicious -- and fattening. Although far inferior, butter or vegetable oil may be used to substitute for ghee in any of these recipes.
