Traditional Irish scone recipe

Ingredients

1 lb white flour
1 t baking soda
1 t cream of tartar
1/2 t salt
1 T margarine or butter
1 c buttermilk

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Sift the dry ingredients together. Cut in the butter or margarine using a butter cutter or two knives. Add buttermilk a little at a time to make the dough stiff. Knead dough for two to three minutes. Roll out on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thick. Using a 3-inch biscuit cutter, cut out scones and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, watching for the scones to become lightly browned. When brown, flip to the other side. Makes 6 - 8 scones.
